Why Every Entrepreneur Needs a Mentor

For me, the most profound growth - both personally and professionally - has come not just from my own experiences but through the invaluable guidance of experienced mentors. Strategic mentorship is a cornerstone of success and a reliable source of support for entrepreneurs.

I tried to work for others early on in my career. I’d take an amazing position working for a cause that I was completely aligned with and set about the job of innovating everything I touched. Usually in about two to two and half years, when I could no longer find something to challenge me - when I was left with nothing but “doing the thing” -  I would feel the urge to move on.

Can’t help being an entrepreneur

So I started a business. 16 years ago.

For those visionaries who have launched a new business, you know all too well that the richest rewards come from the journey - in the experiences collected all along the way.

In the deep satisfaction that comes from overcoming obstacles.

In the pride that comes from bringing a vision to life and smashing your goals.

In witnessing the impact of relentless hard work.

In assembling a team of amazing humans that are just as committed to your cause and clients as you are.

No doubt about it:  the thrill of creating something from nothing is positively exhilarating.

But this journey is also marked by formidable challenges. And no one really talks about how lonely and isolating it can feel.

  • Your unique vision, clear and compelling to you, might not be understood by others, especially at first.

  • Bearing the weight of being the sole decision-maker, accountable for every ripple effect, both positive and negative, can take a toll.

  • The intense drive, focus, and extraordinary level of commitment required to build a business consumes vast amounts of time and energy, leaving you with less to give to your family and friends.

  • The emotional landscape is full of peaks and valleys. The high of success and lows of failure or uncertainty might be hard for others to fully understand.

In this isolation, one thing becomes abundantly clear:

Connection matters.

We hear it from prospects who seek it. From our clients who appreciate it.

We’ve worked with Founders who have silently suffered from anxiety and/or depression. Others who struggle with addiction. A few that have suffered a stroke or chronic illness related to prolonged stress. And still more that are doing their best to repair strained relationships, estrangement, divorce.

Connecting with Other Founder CEO’s

Connecting with like-minded business owners - Founder CEO’s of professional service companies - with goals similar to yours comes with a number of benefits.

We offer this connection - and the benefits that come with it - in two ways:

  • COMMUNITY.  Community is a core value for us and for good reason. It’s our community that cheers us on when things are good, and props us when things are bad. We:

    • learn from each other, inspire and challenge each other.

    • have the opportunity to both mentor AND be mentored from one moment to the next

    • experience transformational rather than iterative change.

  • MENTORSHIP. We’ve assembled a number of experts that can serve as guides on your entrepreneurial journey. We care about your well-being and the success of your business. You can discover more about entrepreneurship and mentorship in this video short. Benefits include:

  • sidestepping common pitfalls

  • accelerating progress towards your goals

  • personalized feedback and recommendations, tailored to your specific challenges and goals.

  • emotional support, helping you navigate the psychological ups and downs of running a business.

  • broadened horizons, new connections, expanded networks and introductions to potential collaborators, clients, or investors.

Perhaps the most profound role of connection is in combating the loneliness of entrepreneurship. Remember that although you may have started walking your path alone, it doesn’t have to be traveled in solitude.

Whether you’re just planting the seeds of a dream or you’re well on your way, both community and mentorship are invaluable resources.
